Swiss Aviation Software AMOS

Swiss AviationSoftware (Swiss-AS) has developed comprehensive and fully-integrated software called AMOS, which successfully manages the maintenance, engineering and logistics requirements of modern airlines and MRO providers.

The goal of any company implementing an aviation MRO software solution will be to better improve on their organization’s logistics, engineering, planning, and maintenance control. It also improve production control, and better quality assurance.

AMOS, Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Operating System, is a complex integrated software package that manages the maintenance, engineering and logistic functions of aviation companies.

AMOS is a completely integrated program that maintains everything needed in order to maintain and access information. Data have to be entered only once; hence inconsistencies are reduced, while productivity and data quality are increased.

AMOS Application Program

Here are some common and very useful AMOS application programs.

Stock Information (APN 221)

Stock Information program is the f‌irst step for checking the availability of parts that are in stock and in a serviceable condition. You will also have visibility of the restriction of the location(s) that the part is located on.

Pickslip Overview (APN 225 & 230)

Pickslip is the AMOS term for a Part Request & Confirmation. There are two main Pickslip processes to ensure that your Stock information is always up-to date:

  1. Pickslip Request (APN 225) – Request of parts out of the stock.
  2. Pickslip Confirmation (APN 230) – Confirmation that the requested material has been removed from stock.

Station Pickslip – A Station Pickslip is used to move requested parts from one station to another.

Order Tracking (APN 1328)

Order Tracking collects all relevant pieces of information regarding the different order types such as Purchase or Repair orders and using the extensive filter’s it is possible to display details such as the status of the order, any receiving’s that have been made or if any reminders have been sent due to the fact that a confirmed delivery date has not been received.

Workorder (APN 1418)

Workorders play a central role in AMOS and are classif‌ied as maintenance, pirep, cabin workorder which are unscheduled, and scheduled workorders. Scheduled workorders are issued by the planning staff while maintenance workorders are issued by the technical staff. Whether the technical staff have to perform a check, a rotable removal or rectify a defect.

The workorder is one of the core programs within AMOS. It is the primary tool to record or request maintenance to be performed on an aircraft and its components. Once the workorder has been entered into AMOS, it can be used to allocate different work steps containing parts, manpower, tooling and other resources. Installation and removal of components can also be done through the workorder. Structural findings can be defined here and the information will automatically be transferred to Structural Damage program (APN 786).

The details that we define on the workorder can then be used for troubleshooting and defect investigation.

Closing worksteps:

It is possible to close individual worksteps independently from the W/O. The main purpose of being able to close a work step is to ensure that planning resources and materials are excluded from the calculation in Maintenance Forecast, Parts Consumption Forecast and Workorder.

A new close status for work steps is being introduced and will not have an impact on signing. It will help you to see which work is actually pending and AMOS can enable certain features which will improve the overview in terms of planning if a lot of work steps are used for the same task. Most Work Steps are included in numerous Work Templates and Workorders, some of them possibly closed already, which is why they cannot be modified at a certain stage.

AMOS will only let you close worksteps in sequence so if you have 5 worksteps on a workorder you cannot close step 2 until step 1 is closed and so on.

Workorders are classified in AMOS as Scheduled (SD) or as Unscheduled (US), and also as Aircraft or Component Workorder.

Scheduled Workorder refers to Checks, Requirements or a Modification Document.

Unscheduled Workorders (US) are usually issued as a result of:

  • Pilot Reports – An entry into the technical log book on board the aircraft by the pilot.
  • Cabin Defects – An entry into the cabin log book by the cabin crew.
  • Maintenance Defects – Workorder raised by member of the maintenance or engineering department.

Workorder Information System (APN 1)

Workorder Information System (WIS) is the most important trouble-shooting tool in AMOS, as it contains all workorders existing in AMOS. Various filter-setting options allow effective retrieval of information, for individual aircraft registrations, aircraft types, components.

Rotables Label Booking (APN 150)

The purpose of the program Rotables Label Booking is to electronically perform the installation and/or removal of rotable components to/from the aircraft. This process will not only update the aircraft equipment list but also the rotable status. By selecting the actual aircraft hours & cycles at the time of install/remove AMOS will update the life of the component and recalculate the time to go of all effective requirements. A label booking could be an install/remove or either an installation or a removal. The function of the label booking can also be performed directly from the Workorder & if done so most of the data is pre-filled for the user.

A key part of the Rotable Label Booking process is that the status of a component is automatically unserviceable when booked off of the aircraft. There is no option with this process. As soon as the booking is complete the component will be available to process within the repair module.

The Rotables Label Booking program is used to register all the installations and removals of rotables on/off aircraft.

Rotables Label Booking is only applicable for “Rotables”; there is no such procedure for installing or removing for “Consumables”. Whenever a part is removed from an aircraft due to defect or when a certain requirement has to be met, the data of the part at the moment of removal have to be recorded as well as certain data of the aircraft from which the part has been removed.

Installation of Assembly on Aircraft (APN 150) – Transfer of an LRU

The purpose of this function is to swap an LRU from the complete assembly which is being removed, over to the incomplete assembly which is being installed.

For example, during an engine change the new engine is incomplete because the starter motor is missing. The engine that is being removed has a serviceable starter motor fitted & we will swap it onto the new engine during the installation/removal.

Parts Tracking (APN 188)

The purpose of this program is to show all history bookings for a part and or serial number that has been performed or reported back in AMOS.

For example, if we were to replace a main wheel on the aircraft we would see a removal booking for the removed serial number & an installation booking for the installed serial number.

Parts Tracking is the information system in AMOS in which all relevant pieces of information regarding the history/movements of a selected part number or its alternates are shown.

A number of programs contribute their data, to Parts Tracking. It allows the correction and addition of data, such as Part Administration, Rotables Administration.

Experience Sheet (APN 217)

The Experience Sheet as a document is a helpful troubleshooting tool. It would, for instance, give the opportunity to record the details of faults which continue to occur, together with the troubleshooting process and outcome.

This document would be most useful if you do not have access to recent information from the manufacturer such as Boeing Maintenance Tips. In order to share experience and to help avoid unnecessary steps in the fault finding process for similar events in the future the Engineering or MCC departments can produce Experience Sheets and make them available to the company using this program.

The Experience Sheet will mainly be created by the Maintenance Control Department and/or Technical Engineering to enter and update documents such as experience sheet. However everybody has reading access. Depending on the access rights, search criteria are restricted and comments cannot be added to a sheet.

The types of documents available in Experience Sheet can be defined in Basic Data Administration, under the table Document types for Experience Sheets. This allows you to create any document type in accordance with company procedures. However all document types would have the same available functionalities and should work in the same way.

Swap Rotables (APN 1290)

If you want to swap the position of two rotables on the same aircraft, normally you have to book the two labels. In AMOS, by default, parts become unserviceable after removal and need to go through the process of releasing them back to service and installing them again using the program Rotables Label Booking.

With the program Swap Rotables you have the possibility to perform the swap of two rotables on the same aircraft without the program Rotables Label Booking. This applies to rotables with the same part number and their alternates with the same modification standard. A booking record will be automatically created in Parts Tracking.

Assembly Configuration Management (APN 27)

Assembly Configuration Management gives you the possibility to cross-check the completeness, the correct positioning, and the correctness of rotables and their requirements for a specif‌ic aircraft or a specific module thereof by means of a reference-tree. Alternate and similar part numbers are not displayed as discrepancy.
