A320 Exterior Lighting Control Panel

BEACON sw

  • BEACON switch turns on and off the two flashing red lights, one on top and one on the bottom of the fuselage.

WING sw

  • WING switch turns on and off two beam lights on each side of the fuselage. These lights provide lighting on the wing leading edge and on the engine air intake to detect ice accretion.
  • There are dual navigation lights on each wing tip and in the APU tail cone.
  • Logo lights are installed in the upper surface of each horizontal stabilizer to illuminate the company logo on the vertical stabilizer provided the main gear struts are compressed or the flaps/slats are extended.
  • 1: Turns on the logo lights and the first set of navigation lights.
  • 2: Turns on the logo lights and the second set of navigation lights.
  • OFF: All lights are off.
  • A blue light below each navigation light allows to monitor the navigation light wear (LED technology). When the NAV & LOGO sw is ON, this light flashes in blue if the navigation light replacement should be planned.

NOSE sw

  • NOSE switch turns the taxi and takeoff lights on and off.
  • TO: Turns on both taxi and takeoff lights.
  • TAXI: Turns on only taxi light.
  • OFF: Taxi and takeoff lights off.
  • Note: These two lights, attached to the nose gear strut, go off automatically when landing gear is retracted.

L and R LAND sel

  • These selectors control the left and right under wing landing light.
  • ON: Extends the (left or right) landing lights which come on automatically when fully extended.
  • OFF: Shuts off the landing lights which remain extended.
  • RETRACT: Shuts off and retracts the landing lights.
  • LDG LT memo is displayed in green if one landing light is extended.

RWY TURN OFF sw

  • RWY TURN OFF switch turns the runway turn-off lights on and off.
  • Note: These lights go off automatically when landing gear is retracted.

STROBE sw

  • STROBE switch turns on and off the three synchronized strobe lights, one on each wing and one below the tail cone.
  • ON: The strobe lights flash white.
  • AUTO: The strobe lights come on automatically when the main landing gear is not compressed. 
  • OFF: The strobe lights are off.
  • STROBE LT OFF memo is displayed in green if the STROBE sw is OFF in flight.
  • A blue light below each strobe light allows to monitor the strobe light wear (LED technology). When STROBE sw is OFF or BEACON sw is ON, this light flashes in blue if the strobe light replacement should be planned.
